About Línuvörn
Línuvörn is a contractor and consulting company specializing in services for substations and power generation facilities. One of our core areas of expertise is control and protection systems — the critical but often overlooked components that ensure the safe and reliable operation of the grid. While these systems are essential, few have concrete, hands-on knowledge of how they work. That’s where we come in.
About the Founder
Línuvörn was founded by Gunnar Ingi Valdimarsson, one of Iceland’s leading experts in digital substations, protection systems, and high-voltage infrastructure. Gunnar brings a rare combination of deep academic training, hands-on technical experience, and industry leadership built over two decades in the energy sector.
He has placed strong emphasis on continuous education, having completed formal programs in Electrical Machine Installation (Rafvélavirkjun), Utility Systems Installation (Rafveituvirkjun), Electrical Engineering Technology (Rafmagnstæknifræði), and Power Engineering (Raforkuverkfræði). This foundation is further strengthened by a wide range of specialized training courses from global equipment manufacturers such as ABB, Siemens, and SEL.
Gunnar is a certified switchgear operator (kunnáttumaður og rofastjóri), and holds both A and B electrical licenses (Löggilding rafverktaka). He has worked on critical infrastructure projects at companies like RARIK and Landsnet, leading efforts in system protection, substation commissioning, control systems, communication networks, digital substation rollout, and installation of power transformers and circuit breakers within the national transmission grid.
He has also contributed to award-winning research, including his thesis "Real-time security assessment for the Icelandic electrical power system" (2016), which explored dynamic load control and system reliability — further reinforcing his reputation as a trusted expert in the field.
Through Línuvörn, Gunnar applies this unique mix of practical insight and engineering rigor to help clients design, implement, and maintain critical power infrastructure with confidence.
